Clay Cross Family

Welcome from Cheryl Fox, Pastor of Clay Cross Congregation

As pastor of the Clay Cross congregation I hope that whatever day of the week, during whatever activity, each person feels welcome in our safe, sacred space and feels welcomed into relationships, with each other and with God.

When I asked people from our church what they felt we as a congregation, had to offer, their responses were: friendly faces, safety, empathy, healing, hope, encouragement, a non-judgemental place, kindness, compassion, welcome, understanding, support, a listening ear, a sense of belonging, laughter, a place to be yourself, love, guidance, friendship, acceptance, diversity, sanctuary, safe space, blessing, openness to change, community, smiles.

I hope you will discover this for yourself if you choose to meet with us.

You can find us at

Thanet Street, Clay Cross, Chesterfield,  S45 9JS. We meet each Sunday for worship or messy church at 11.00

Is your church accessible?

The church building is wheelchair accessible. There is a level access toilet. The car park at the rear of the building has allocated spaces for people with disabilities.

What do I do when I arrive?

The main entrance is on the left-hand side at the front of the building. On entering go through the double doors facing you. Many of our activities such as Foodbank, children's and youth groups and BEan STILL generally take place in this space.  If you are arriving for worship this will normally take place in the sanctuary, which is through another set of double doors on the right.

What should I wear?

For worship services and all other activities, people dress in whatever way makes them feel most comfortable.

Are there activities for my children/family at your church?

Children and families are an important part of what happens at our church.

Messy Church is a time for children and adults to have fun, make things, eat and celebrate God together. This takes place on the second Sunday of each month from 11.00 am to 1.15 pm

Peacemakers Youth Group for children in reception through to year 7 takes place every Monday at 6.30 pm

The Ark Baby & Toddler Group meets every Thursday at 9.15

Games Nights occur once a month, generally on a Friday evening

Children & Families are always welcome and valued at our 11 am Sunday worship services

What are your worships like?

The people planning and leading worship service vary from week to week, so no two services will ever be exactly alike.  On the first Sunday of every month there will be a communion service. The second Sunday is Messy Church and generally, on the fourth Sunday of each month, the worship will be more informal.  Each of our worship experiences provides the opportunity to share in music and scripture, to build relationships and to deepen our understanding of Jesus Christ. You are able to join the majority of our Sunday worships via ZOOM. Please contact us for the Zoom link if you wish to share with us in this way.

Our Programme

What other activities can I join in at your church?

BEan STILL, our Wednesday morning activity, provides time for simply chatting and eating together. We welcome volunteers to help with our Foodbank. Throughout the year there are many opportunities for fun and fellowship.

As a church community, we encounter God through the sacraments of the church which touch lives at important times and places. We offer the sacraments of marriage for all people, ordination, the blessing of children, laying on of hands for the sick, evangelist blessing, baptism, confirmation, the Lords Supper (open communion) and funeral services for our wider church community, with our ministers available to work with you to ensure this significant ministry is personal to you and your family To engage with our wider church community please check out our events page on this website for dates for cluster worships and planned activities. These include youth camps, family camps, congregation and work weekends etc, along with the opportunity to study, learn and take part in the decision making of our church in the British Isles.
