Our name, Community of Christ, is our identity and we want to be there for the local communities where we live, including at the key moments in life. Here are some of the ways your local church may be able to support you.
Weddings
You don’t have to be baptised or a regular attender to be married in a Community of Christ church and it is open to all couples. The sacrament of marriage is a covenant made between two individuals in the presence of God, with the church as witness. It celebrates the couple’s decision to make a lifelong commitment of mutual support, love, and faithfulness to one another.
Blessing of Children
Following the example of Jesus, parents can bring their little children to ministers of the church for a prayer of blessing. Two ministers offer a prayer asking God to bless the child and the family. This sacrament is usually celebrated in a regular worship service and is available to all regardless of membership.
Baptism
Baptism is a personal expression of faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to keep his commandments and live out his mission. Ministers of the church perform baptisms by fully immersing the person in water. They must be at least eight years old so they understand their commitment.
Confirmation
Anyone who wants to become a member of Community of Christ does so through the sacrament of confirmation. Church ministers lay their hands on the head of the person and offer a prayer which seeks God’s blessing and affirms the Holy Spirit’s continued presence as they live out Christ’s mission. Confirmation is available to those previously baptised, whether performed by Community of Christ or other Christian ministers.
Funerals
Losing a loved one is incredibly difficult and ministers in Community of Christ can help you say goodbye in a way that helps. Please get in touch with your local congregation.
