Peace and Justice

We believe that Christ’s Mission is Our Mission. So, our ministries, personnel and resources are focused on life-changing, church-changing and world-changing actions.

NON-VIOLENCE

In 2025 church members in the UK joined others to successfully call on the worldwide church to issue a statement on nonviolence. It affirms that nonviolence is a means to embody the gospel message modelled on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. As individuals and congregations, we encourage the use of nonviolence, wherever possible, as we follow Jesus Christ, the peaceful One.

CLIMATE EMERGENCY

In 2023 some of our members in the UK successfully called for a Climate Emergency to be recognised by our World Conference.

In 2025 members voted for further action including a requirement for all new church buildings to adhere to eco-friendly, sustainable practices.

EUROPEAN PEACE COLLOQUY

Every 2 years Community of Christ in the UK holds a weekend of discussion and exploration with members from across Europe about the diverse ways to live out the gospel message of peace. In 2026 Philip Austin was awarded the “European Peace Award” for 35 years of organising and supporting peace initiatives including work with the Northern Friends Peace Board and the Network of Christian Peace Organisations.
